Business Insurance helps companies in the UK & Ireland identify, prepare for and mitigate risks by offering a broad array of industry-specific, combined property and casualty insurance solutions to customers.
Our Underwriting Controls and Wordings team ensure that we can offer underwriting excellence to our customers. You will support the Underwriting Controls Manager and team to ensure the required standards and underwriting controls are executed for Europe Business Insurance teams so that all relevant decision makers are made aware of any upcoming challenges.
You will support work that ensures our controls are reviewed and revised where necessary to balance Corporate underwriting standards with day to day operational needs. You will also provide administrative support to the Wordings team and support the records management process with the Records Management Officer.
What Will You Do?
Internal Underwriting Reviews:
- Assist with the coordination and administration of Underwriting Reviews.
This includes, prompt and effective reporting, monitoring findings and fostering best practice.
Underwriting Reviews include (but are not limited to) Peer Review, Independent Peer Review, Underwriter Level Reviews & Thematic Reviews.
Underwriting Authorities:
- Assist with the control and administration of Underwriting Authorities annual update.
- Administer technical underwriting assessments which includes the marking of the multiple choice assessments.
Monitoring and Reporting:
- Track, monitor and assist with reporting on Underwriting Reviews, authority breaches, exception reports, policy reformation etc. so that reports and information is timely, accurate and effective.
- Take notes from monthly control meetings and quarterly delegated authority panel meeting and follow up action items to conclusion
- Complete reporting eg. Lloyd’s Part VII report
External Audits:
- Assist with the coordination of both internal and external Underwriting Audits, including; Internal Audit / Enterprise Audit / Corporate Reviews / Pool Re / Gareat.
Be the appointed Records Coordinator and work with the Records Management Officer to manage the records for Business Insurance Underwriting Office.
Provide administrative support to the Wordings team.
Business Insurance Underwriting Guidelines/Guides:
- As required develop / deliver / maintain Underwriting Procedural Notes.
- Administer process for guidelines and arrange circulation and sign off.
- Maintain, update and publish Business Charters.
- Administer review process for Enterprise Guidelines.
- Prepare and issue a weekly communication to Underwriters
- Maintain Guidelines control spreadsheets and storage including archiving and identification of review/update need.
- Liaise with Authors.
- Maintain Manuscript Endorsement Library
Document Storage:
- Maintain storage of signoffs and other approvals
- Proactively manage SharePoint for Europe Underwriting (Underwriting Centre, CURE).
- Add/remove new sub-sites/individuals/documents.
- Provide other support as necessary to the team to ensure controls & standards are administered, coordinated and maintained
Perform other duties as assigned.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
- Basic knowledge of any of the following insurance areas - Property & Casualty, Specialty Lines, Global Property, Marine Classes, Aviation, Power and Utilities, Professional Risks or Personal Lines.
- Basic communication and interpersonal skills, capable of providing precise focused responses to stakeholders.
- Works effectively with all levels, which includes building new relationships and confident interaction with all levels within the Group or externally.
- Takes responsibility for decisions and actions.
- Ability to work with people from different backgrounds, experiences, cultures, races, etc. and views those differences as assets to be leveraged to accomplish business goals and objectives.
What is a Must Have?
- Educated to GCSE level or equivalent including English and Maths.
- A general understanding of Insurance practices and principles.
- Good working knowledge of MS Office and other IT applications.
