We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Director to join the Precision Medicine, Bioanalytical and Translational Sciences organization, where our vision is to inform treatment selection for each patient at every stage of therapy. Bristol-Myers Squibb is seeking a leader with exceptional scientific, strategic, and operational acumen to lead Precision Medicine Search, Evaluation, and Alliances in support of the BMS portfolio.
Summary:
The Senior Director of Precision Medicine Search, Evaluation, and Alliances is responsible for leading strategic diagnostic initiatives that support BMS’s Precision Medicine strategy. This includes identifying and evaluating emerging diagnostic technologies and external opportunities to enhance the pipeline and enable co-development of innovative solutions. The role oversees diagnostic development from concept through regulatory approval and commercialization, manages strategic alliances, and ensures alignment with internal goals. The Director also maintains platform capabilities, represents BMS externally, and serves as a key resource for diagnostic intelligence and policy insights across the organization. Subject matter expertise in immunohistochemistry (IHC), next-generation sequencing (NGS), polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and the mass spectrometry (MSPEC) landscape—including assay development—is strongly preferred. Bristol-Myers Squibb is seeking a Senior Director to fulfill this critical role.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead diagnostic search and evaluation efforts to identify, assess, and prioritize innovative diagnostic technologies and external opportunities that support the co-development of diagnostic solutions and enhance the BMS pipeline.
- Maintain and expand Diagnostic Science platform capabilities through strategic alliances with diverse partners. This includes ongoing surveillance of emerging diagnostic technologies, competitive intelligence gathering, and proactive investment in the development of high-impact platforms aligned with BMS’s Precision Medicine strategy.
- Lead cross-functional teams and external partnerships to execute diagnostic co-development strategies for Precision Medicine assets, aligning internal goals with external diagnostic capabilities. Drive the development of IVD products from concept through regulatory approval, commercialization, and lifecycle management.
- Establish and manage strategic alliances with diagnostic partners, ensuring effective collaboration, milestone delivery, and alignment with regulatory and commercial objectives.
- Maintain a strong external presence representing BMS’s leadership in Diagnostic Sciences and Translational Medicine through publications, presentations, and active participation in consortia, research collaborations, and policy-shaping initiatives related to diagnostics.
- Serve as a corporate resource for institutional knowledge and information exchange, including competitive intelligence, diagnostic industry trends and regulatory and policy developments to inform strategic precision medicine decision-making across the organization.
BASIC ESSENTIAL CRITERIA/QUALIFICATION: Advanced technical degree, e.g., MSc, PhD. Specific experience in the diagnostic and pharmaceutical industries, oncology biomarkers, and diagnostic business development. Minimum of 10+ years’ experience in assay and IVD development including analytical validation, clinical development, manufacturing, US and global regulatory submission, and commercialization of diagnostics. Experience with or good working knowledge of a broad range of biomarker/in vitro diagnostic platforms. Demonstrated matrix leadership skills and the ability to work effectively in a matrix team across multiple disciplines internal and external to the organization.
For NJ based candidates he starting compensation for this job is a range from $243,000 - $286,000, plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility).
The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and where the job is performed. Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.
